At TLC Christmas Experience, we believe every child deserves the opportunity to experience the magic of Christmas in a way that feels comfortable, respectful, and meaningful to them.

That’s why Santa Denver and Mrs. Tabby Claus offer sensory-friendly Santa home visits throughout Northeast Ohio.

Instead of traveling to a crowded Santa event, Santa comes to your home—providing a private, familiar, and personalized environment where your child can experience Santa at their own pace.

There is no “right” way to visit Santa. Your child sets the pace.

They may run to Santa with excitement, watch Santa from across the room, wave, talk with him, show him a favorite toy, listen to a Christmas story, take photographs, or simply enjoy having Santa nearby.

Before your visit, we’ll encourage you to share information about your child that can help us create a more comfortable and meaningful experience.

You know your child best.

You can tell us about their:

• Favorite toys, characters, activities, or interests

• Communication style

• Sensory preferences

• Sounds or situations they may find uncomfortable

• Comfort level with new people

• Preferred ways of interacting

• Things they may be afraid of or want to avoid

• Anything else you feel would help Santa connect with them

This information helps Santa Denver and Mrs. Tabby Claus approach the visit with patience, flexibility, and understanding.

What to Expect During Your Sensory-Friendly

Santa Visit

Your visit begins in the comfort of your own home.

When Santa arrives, there is no expectation that your child immediately interact with him.  Santa can give your child time and space to observe him and become familiar with his presence.  Depending on your child’s comfort level and interests, Santa might:

 Talk with your child about their favorite things

 Look at your Christmas tree and decorations

 Read a favorite Christmas story

 Talk about Christmas wishes

 Admire a favorite toy or special interest

 Take photographs naturally throughout the visit

 Simply spend quiet time together

The experience can change based on your child’s needs in the moment.  If your child needs a break, we can slow down.  If your child wants Santa to stay nearby without interacting, that’s okay.  If your child suddenly decides they’re ready to talk, play, or take pictures, Santa is ready.

Sensory-Friendly Doesn’t Mean

One Specific Experience

A sensory-friendly Santa visit isn’t about following a strict set of rules.

It’s about reducing unnecessary pressure and giving your child greater control over the experience.  For some children, that may mean a quieter approach.

For others, it may mean extra time to warm up to Santa.  Some children may prefer Santa to stay several feet away.  Others may want Santa to get right down on the floor and play.  Some children may love photographs.

Others may not want a camera anywhere near them.

All of those experiences are okay.

Our goal is to meet your child where they are rather than expecting them to conform to a traditional Santa experience.

TLC Christmas Experience has had the privilege of participating in special education school visits, Christmas celebrations, and events for residential programs serving children and adults with sensory needs.  Those experiences have reinforced something we believe strongly:

Patience, flexibility, communication, and respect can make all the difference.

We understand that a successful Santa visit isn’t necessarily the one where a child sits perfectly still for a photograph.

Sometimes success is a child feeling comfortable enough to stay in the room.

Sometimes it’s a wave.

Sometimes it’s a smile.

Sometimes it’s simply allowing Santa to be part of the room.

And sometimes, it’s a child who wasn’t sure about Santa at first deciding that Santa isn’t so bad after all.  Those moments matter.

Does my child have to sit on Santa’s lap?

No. There is absolutely no requirement for your child to sit on Santa’s lap. Your child can interact with Santa in whatever way feels comfortable.

Does my child have to take a picture with Santa?

No. Photographs are optional. We want pictures to be a natural part of the experience rather than something that creates pressure.

What if my child doesn’t want to talk to Santa?

That’s completely okay. Your child can observe Santa, listen to a story, show Santa a favorite toy, or simply be in the same room.

Can I tell Santa about my child’s needs before the visit?

Absolutely. We encourage parents to share information that may help us create a more comfortable experience. You know your child best, and your insight is incredibly valuable.

Is a sensory-friendly Santa visit only for children with autism?

No. Sensory-friendly visits can benefit children with many different needs, personalities, and comfort levels. A diagnosis is not required. If your child would benefit from a calmer and more individualized Santa experience, we’d love to work with your family.

Can siblings participate?

Absolutely. Sensory-friendly visits can be designed to include siblings and the entire family while still keeping your child’s individual needs in mind.

How far in advance should we book?

Sensory-friendly Santa visits are limited during the Christmas season, so we recommend contacting us as early as possible. We’ll work with you to find an available date and time that works for your family.
